The Twelfth Annual Bequia Basketball Tournament bounced off Saturday July 10th at the Clive Tannis Hard Court on Bequia with twelve teams parading in their colourful uniforms, to a warm reception from the Bequia community. Visiting team from the mainland Calliaqua United also joined in the auspicious ceremony, which celebrates twelve years of basketball competition on Bequia, under the leadership of Sabrina Mitchell. Team Young Duke was adjudged and awarded a cake as the Best Dressed Team 2010.

The Bequia Basketball Association is pleased to announce that two basketball scholarships to Ming Chuan University in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China, have been sourced for Craiglee Sam and Cregg Friday of Paget Farm, Bequia. Both young men are 6’ 6” and play center and power forward positions for the Bequia Tech Rising Stars Team, and the Bequia All-Stars Basketball Club, and are coached by Fitzgerald Sutton. 

Friday and Sam, ages 20 and 22 respectively depart the state on Thursday September 3rd, to travel to Taipei, via London and Hong Kong.

The Eleventh Annual Bequia Basketball Tournament came to an exciting conclusion on Sunday August 30th at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Bequia. First Division’s DUKE defeated defending champions BequiaTech Rising Stars 72 to 57 in an exciting game three of the Final Best of 3 Series to capture the First Division 2009 Championship title, and a beautiful gold ball trophy. Craiglee Sam of the Stars, who was adjudged the overall Division Most Valuable Player, as well and his team MVP, netted 18 points, but his team, who were leading for three quarters, came up short in the last 5 minutes of the game!
