The SVG Volleyball Association recently concluded the 2009 Youth Volleyball Festival.  8 teams participated in this competition  in 2 divisions, Male and Female.

The female category was won by Georgetown Secondary School with the George Stevens Secondary placing 2nd.

In the Male Category, again, the Georgetown Secondary school claimed the championship, defeating the George Stevens Secondary school.

The prize giving ceremony was held on Saturday 20th June 2009 at the Girl's High School hard court to distribute awards for the competition and also for the 20098 Firms and Industrial competition held earlier this year.

President of the Volleyball Association Mr. Shaun Young Commented on the High Level of the Competition and sees a bright future for Volleyball in St. Vincent.

In March of this Year, the National  Female team placed 3rd in their zone of the FIVB World Championship Qualifier Tournament and the following Month, April the Men also placed third in their qualifying competition.  This was a major achievement after an absence from regional competition for approximately 10 years.

The President is also looking forward to claim gold in the up coming Windward Island Inter-secondary school games - scheduled for SVG in July. The Volleyball Teams have been in training for a while now and is confident of the SVG chances to topple the volleyball giants St.Lucia in this competition.
